Quake

Lyrics
The ancient fault lines in my mind
The continental plates, they’re drifting side to side
The first it whispers to me, “All is beautiful”
Another screams that everything must be destroyed

And when these continents they shift and then collide
My shaking and my quaking they cannot be contained inside
My hands begin to tremble as they hold my splitting head
And all the dreams that gave me wings must surely now be dead
My teeth are clenched and grinding, grinding, grinding themselves to dust
And meaning has no place amidst the fire and the rust

So just hold me like your child
And please don’t ever ask what’s wrong
I promise not to hurt you
I promise this won’t last much longer
Hold me like your child
And I won’t ever feel alone
I promise by the sunrise I’ll once again be cold as stone

I’ve got this feeling that these continents are one with many names
There’s just one single earth beneath the ocean and L.A.
If I could handle truth, then I’d know they’re all the same
I could be just like you
I would never feel ashamed

Destruction breeds creation, or at least that’s what they say
But it doesn’t make the quake within any easier to take

So just hold me like your child
And please don’t ever ask what’s wrong
I promise not to hurt you
I promise this won’t last much longer
Hold me like your child
And I won’t ever feel alone
I promise by the sunrise I’ll once again be cold as stone
